IronMan 70.3 Cartagena

This year Cartagena de Indias is the chosen place to carry out this important event, on December 2 of this year it is the day in which our city will be able to witness the beginning of this race.

The Ironman 70.3 It is a series of medium distance triathlon cart, World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), this championship has a distance of 1.9 kilometers of swimming and 90 kilos of cycling and 21.1 kilometers of Atlétismo, summing all the phases are 113 km, translated to 70.3 miles, that’s why its name.

This year Cartagena de Indias is the chosen place to carry out this important event, on December 2 of this year it is the day in which our city will be able to witness the beginning of this race.

The participants will swim 1.2 miles (1.9 km), in the protected waters of Bahía de las Ánimas. The spectators will have a great view of the entire swimming tour from the Convention Center, the walks that border the bay and the marinas. The water temperature is expected to be around 80º Fahrenheit (28º Celsius).

The transition between swimming and cycling will take place at the Camellón Plaza de los Mártires in front of the emblematic Torre del Reloj. The athletes will then ride 56 miles (90 km) by bicycle from the Convention Center and the Clock Tower to Vía al Mar, which is the road that connects Cartagena with the city of Barranquilla. Along the route, athletes can enjoy various natural landscapes, beaches and mangroves. This mostly flat course will let us see high speeds.

The two laps of athletics 13.1 miles (21km) will take the athletes on a journey through the old city of Cartagena. The participants will begin their journey through the western part of the city, with impressive views of the Caribbean Sea, which borders the historic walled city. Upon entering the walled city, the athletes will take a step back in time to the colonial years and will be part of the colorful and historic architecture that makes Cartagena a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The athletes will finish their IRONMAN 70.3 in front of the iconic Clock Tower.
